That’s me! I’m Amber. I’m a multimedia-focused instructional designer looking to transition from lecturing students directly to creating instructional materials (and working with SMEs & instructors themselves). I’m extremely detail-oriented and I have experience developing in-person, blended, and online learning programs.
Currently, I live in Las Vegas, Nevada with my partner and our very small, very friendly, and very attention-hungry dog. I use she/her pronouns. I’m happy to relocate for the right position.
I have a master’s degree in experimental psychology which I received from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2020. Beyond that, I have six years of experience as an “instructor of record” teaching psychology classes at an R1 university. I was completely responsible for my classes’ curriculum, presentation materials, learning objectives, and assignments used to measure those learning objectives. You can see some examples of my instructor work on this website.
While getting my master’s degree, I gained experience in project management thanks to my time as the manager of a cognitive psychology lab. You can find more information about my work history and experience on my CV.
I’ve also been a teaching assistant, audio transcriptionist, and research assistant!
I was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania but grew up in a semi-rural area near Charleston, South Carolina! I lived with my mom (a high school math teacher), my grandma (a high school tutor), my grandfather (a federal law enforcement firearms instructor), and my big sister (who eventually became the lakes-and-wastewater manager for a city in Florida).
I was a very fast learner in school – which meant that I could get bored easily! I was shuffled between my mom’s K-12 school and online high school until my family worked with me to figure out a homeschooling curriculum that kept me interested and engaged as a learner.
My personal educational experiences led me to an interest instructional design, as I want to make engage learners at every level of skill and interest. I’m passionate about diversity and inclusion, including my #1 priority to make learning both accessible and equitable for all audiences.
I love making multi-purpose educational content that can be used in a traditional lecture or training, in small groups, or in solo learning. I develop accessible, interactive, slide- or video-based presentations with built-in opportunities for participation. I also enjoy making layperson-friendly data visualizations (graphs, charts, etc.) to help explain complex information.
I’m a big consumer of podcasts, video essays, and documentaries! When I’m not sitting on my couch learning about extremely niche topics, I go hiking at Red Rock National Conservation Area with my dog.
Great question! I have a contact form right here on my website. You can also message me on my LinkedIn page.
